The
Department of Medical Genetics at the University of Münster is offering a position at the earliest opportunity, limited to 3 years with the possibility of extension

Full-time with 100% (38.5 hours/week)

Salary according to TV-L E13

The Department for Medical Genetics emerged from the Institute of Human Genetics on 1st January 2024 and will become part of the Centre for Medical Genetics, which is currently being founded and also includes the Institute of Reproductive Genetics, the Department of Genetics Epidemiology, and the Core Facility Genomics.

The Department for Medical Genetics treats patients from the entire spectrum of human genetic diseases and carries out the associated analyses.

The clinical focus is on reproductive genetics, tumour predisposition syndromes and developmental disorders. The current scientific focus is on reproductive genetics (including the DFG-funded Clinical Research Group 326 'Male Germ Cells'). The two other clinical specialisations will also be increasingly reflected in research activities.

We have implemented large scale sequencing in both diagnostics and research for many years based on short read sequencing (Illumina NovaSeq 6000 and NextSeq 500, 550, 2000), currently moving from exomes to genomes.

During the current restructuring, we will introduce long read genomics by acquiring the PacBio Revio.

This position is to enlarge our team of (bio)informaticians and offers a broad spectrum of opportunities analysing human genomics & epigenomics data.

Your tasks:

  • Analysing large scale genomics data both with established pipelines as well as implementing novel pipelines
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse team of clinicians and scientists to solve the challenges working with (human) genomic data
  • Preferably, establish the environment and analyse epigenomic data
  • Develop further our inhouse software setting based on Linux servers, mySQL, and PHP

We are looking forward to:

  • A degree in (bio)informatics or natural sciences (diploma or master's degree), preferably with a doctorate
  • Experience and methodological skills in analysing human genomics data
  • Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary, translational scientific work
  • Commitment, innovative spirit, flexibility, ability to work in a team and a desire to take on new challenges

We offer you an exciting, varied and responsible position in an open-minded, multidisciplinary, and motivated team as well as a good working atmosphere and an extensive familiarisation phase. We also offer you the opportunity to do a doctorate or habilitation.
