  • Research Position
  • ID:
-
Wiss23139

  • Start: as soon as possible
- fulltime
- salary according to Remuneration level 13 TV-L
- fixed-term

  • The research project "The choice between time or money: new flexibility for a better worklife balance?", funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation, is a cooperative project of Bielefeld University headed by Prof. Dr. Anja-Kristin Abendroth and the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) headed by Dana Müller. The project is attached to the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University in the research area of Social Structure Analysis and Social Inequality. Two staff members are planned for this project, one currently vacant fulltime position at Bielefeld University and one already staffed 50% position at the IAB. The project deals with an employment option that incorporated the choice between time or money that was negotiated by some of the largest German unions (IGM, IGBCE, and EVG, among others). This option allows employees covered by collective bargaining agreements to choose annually between more vacation days or a shorter working week instead of a bonus payment or a monthly pay increase.
  • The research project focuses on individual choices for time or money and their effects on career and worklife balance. In addition, the role of the company context for employees' decisions will be investigated. Furthermore, the household context and in particular the gender arrangements in the division of labor will be considered for the individual decision and the consequences.
  • Your Tasks
- descriptive and multivariate statistical analyses of a linked-employee dataset on the topic of the collective bargaining option to choose between time or money (40 %)
- investigation of the project questions and preparation of scientific publications on the individual decision for time or money as well as its effects on career and work-life balance, the role of company conditions as well as the household context (40 %)

Employment is conducive to scientific qualification.
