With Germany being the core of European auto manufacturing, its only natural it should also be a pioneer in scaling up battery cell manufacturing.

At Northvolt we are excited to make this happen and to enable our next giga factory we are now looking for a VP Finance who can build up and lead our finance department.


Our set-up in Germany consist of two offices, one is our Factory being built in Heide, Schleswig-Holstein and second one is our office hub in Hamburg.

We are now bringing together a stellar team of individuals, who are equally excited, and who jointly represent the skills needed for such an ambitious project.


About the job

As the VP Finance you will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the company's operations and providing strategic financial leadership.

Working closely with the Germany CEO and our CFO in Sweden, you will develop and execute financial plans, implement robust financial controls, and drive informed decision-making to support our growth ambitions.


The size of our current operation is still modest, with day-to-day accounting outsourced, and hence the recently kicked off investment project will be very much in focus.

Over time you will build and develop the local finance team.

In establishing the financing structure, you will work shoulder-to-shoulder with the Corporate finance function, and in many other areas you will work together with the Group Finance function who provide expertise in areas such as IFRS, treasury and tax.


As a VP Finance you will be a critical member of the German management team, and you will bring a finance perspective to the the full set of tasks, focusing on planning, execution and follow up.

Our organisational setup is matrix-like, and you will act both as the finance business partner to the Executive manager for Drei, and as extension of the central CFO-organisation.


Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and executing the company's financial strategy, aligning it with overall business goals and objectives. Have a close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including finance, tax, legal, and IT, to drive process improvements, optimize resource allocation, and support business initiatives.
  • Lead funding efforts, including collaboration with investors, financial institutions, and other stakeholders to secure necessary funding for business operations and expansions.
  • Conducting financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling to provide insights and recommendations to the executive team.
  • Overseeing the company's accounting, financial operations, and reporting functions, including ensuring accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and other financial reports.
  • Assess and monitor financial risks and develop risk mitigation strategies to safeguard the company's financial assets and investments.

Skills & Requirements


We believe that you have:


  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Studies or any related field.
  • Background from investment banking and/or private equity
  • Experience from larger funding processes, some CAPEX projects and Industrial experiences with high volume products
  • Proven track record of leading and managing global financial shared services operations, preferably in a large multinational organization. Experience from Finance Transformation is a plus.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to partner effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent English and German
  • Strong understanding of Excel
