The Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) is an internationally oriented and regionally networked university with a strong research profile.

The Faculty of Computer Science seeks to fill the following vacancy at the Institute of Department for Technical & Business Information Systems:
Research Associate in the research project BIldungsRaum Digital - BIRD

You collaborate and innovate on the new German digital education space (BIldungsRaum Digital - BIRD).

This lighthouse project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and aims at driving forward the creation of a federated infrastructure for digital education in Germany.

It thus represents an important building block in national digitalization efforts and brings together numerous prestigious project partners from academia and industry.

As part of the project, you will work together with other scientists and practitioners in the BIRD Lab to facilitate the prototypical development, evaluation, and iterative refinement of technical system innovations in the educational domain.

You will work with researchers and experts at the world's largest SAP university competence center.


Main responsibilities:


  • Prototypical development, evaluation, and iterative refinement of technical system innovations in the educational domain
  • Integration with industryproven campus management systems (SAP, HIS etc.)
  • Supervision of Bachelor/Master thesis and student projects relevant to the project
  • Writing projectrelated reports and documentation
  • Participating in project workshops
  • Presenting project progress to project stakeholders

Your working environment:


You will be part of an implementation lab for the administrative processes within a digital education platform, acting in collaboration with various partners.


Requirements for the position:


  • Profound knowledge and experience in agile software development using interface protocols (SOAP, REST, OAuth 2.0 etc.), programming languages (Python, Java, ABAP etc.), and data interchange formats (JSON, OData etc.)
  • Knowledge of ABAP is required, experience as a professional software developer is an advantage
  • Knowledge of authorization and IT security technologies such as federated identity management, decentralized digital identities, and selfsovereign data management
  • Knowledge of databases and related technologies is a plus
  • Proven expertise in container (e.g. Docker) and cloud technologies
  • Proven experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines is a plus
  • Having research assistant and/or teaching experience is an advantage
  • Proven experience in conducting workshops
  • Expertise in complex IT systems is an advantage; Knowledge of campus management systems (SAP, HIS etc.) is beneficial, but not mandatory
  • Experience with common web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or PHP
  • Curiosity in exploring of/experimenting with emerging technologies
  • Commitment to quality, security, and data privacy
  • A high level of interpersonal skills, strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team
  • Interest in collaboration with scientists and practitioners in a highly engaged developer community
  • Experience with scientific publications is a plus
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and basic knowledge of German is required
