Beschreibung

Esslingen University of Applied Sciences is looking for a
PhD Student for a research project in the field of wind energy for the faculty "
Science, Energy and Building Services " at the
city centre campus to be filled immediately.

The development of wind energy as a renewable, climate-friendly energy is advancing around the globe. More and more also hilly and mountainous as well as forested areas are being developed. Due to orography and land use, inhomogeneous wind flow and turbulence are induced. Therefore, the search for suitable sites is a challenging task requiring innovative simulation methods for the detailed description of meso
- and micro-scale flow phenomena within the atmospheric boundary layer. This is the goal of the sub-project to be elaborated and one of the key activities of the research cluster WindForS as well as part of the interdisciplinary, BMWi funded research project WINSENT. In this framework, a wind energy test site with two wind turbines and four meteorological measuring masts is built in Southern Germany in collaboration with six renowned research institutions. Additionally, various measuring campaigns are elaborated providing data for the model validation.
