Beschreibung

In a climate-neutral European energy system, green hydrogen from renewable energies will play an important role as an emission-free or low-emission energy carrier for the use in industry and to provide flexibility for the system.

Hydrogen storage facilities can be used in the future for reasons of supply security, for intermediate storage, and for variable production of hydrogen using electrolysis.

These include underground hydrogen storage in salt caverns, aquifers, or pore storage, as well as other forms of storage such as tube storage.

Underground hydrogen storages are more cost-effective than other storage types, such as tube storage or tanks, this is mainly due to their larger capacities.

In existing hydrogen energy system analyses, hydrogen storage has so far been modeled in a highly simplified way.

The aim of this work is to model the operation of a hydrogen storage coupled with a hydrogen power plant.

What you will do

  • You develop a method to model constituents of an integrated energy system with a focus on hydrogen networks and storage options.
  • Data extraction, processing and validation using Python programming language.
  • Use the modelling tools to find answers for pressing hydrogenrelated question
  • Conducting and preparing literature, internet and data research.

What you bring to the table

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, computer science, engineering, economics, environmental science or a related field of study.
  • Good programming skills are essential preferably using Python.
  • Interest in the peculiarities of underground storage
  • Knowledge of any of the following is a big advantage: energy system modeling, energy storage, GIS, databases or Git.
  • Enthusiasm for topics related to the energy transition.
  • Confident handling of MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Independent, but also teamoriented, committed working style.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, good command of German

What you can expect

  • A practiceoriented work that complements your studies
  • Individual support by our supervisor to help succeed.
  • We will encourage you to actively participate in the project and include your ideas.
  • A wellequipped technical infrastructure.
  • Flexible working hours and place.
