  • Student Assistant (50%), Organization Department, open source AI language models (LLMs)
  • Vacancy 1105, for a fixed term until March 31, 2025

Working field:

Evangelisches Werk für Diakonie und Entwicklung e. V. based in Berlin has combined development cooperation, disaster relief, and nationwide welfare work since 2012.

With approximately 850 employees, the organization operates across the three brands:

Diakonie Deutschland, the Protestant top-level federation of independent welfare work; the development agency Brot für die Welt; and the emergency relief organisation Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe.


We are looking for a technically proficient student employee who can help us gain organizational experience in this respect and move closer to this vision.


Your tasks include:
- research and assessment of open source LLMs such as Mistral, LLaMA 2 or Falcon, as well as relevant technologies and frameworks
- explore fine-tuning techniques to adapt LLMs to the specific requirements and data sets of the EWDE
- documentation of results, processes, and decision-making criteria as well as preparation of decision templates for internal strategy development


Requirements:


You meet the following requirements:
- current enrollment in a relevant field of study (e. g., Computer Science, Data Science, Cognitive Sciences, etc.)
- basic understanding and initial experience with open source LLMs and machine learning
- practical experience with the Python programming language and common AI libraries/tools (Hugging Face, vector databases, etc.)
- knowledge of fine-tuning techniques of LLMs is desirable
- high self-initiative and the ability to develop solutions
- very good knowledge of either German or English
