Research Associate for the Project "Cluster of Excellence '

CUI:
Advanced Imaging of Matter'- Attosecond Science in the Water Window" - 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG

  • InstitutionCluster of Excellence "Advanced Imaging of Matter" (photon and nanosciences)
Salary levelEGR. 13 TV-L

Start date , fixed for a period of two years (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]).

Application deadline

Scope of workfull-time position suitable for part-time
Responsibilities:

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties

In the project "Attosecond science in the water window", which is part of the DFG funded excellence cluster "

CUI:

Advanced Imaging of Matter", we use a custom engineered sub-cycle optical waveform synthesizer to generate controlled isolated attosecond pulses up to the water window spectral region for attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy.

The research associate needs to be familiar with parametric waveform synthesis and its underlying technologies:

High-power and high-energy Ti:Sapphire lasers, optical parametric amplifiers, 1f-2f interferometry, carrier-envelope phase stabilization, nonlinear pulse characterization techniques, electronic control systems, attosecond beamlines and strong field physics.

Further he/she needs to have a strong desire to develop the beamline and implement novel techniques to enhance the soft X-ray detection efficiency and spectral resolution in order to perform cutting edge attosecond transient absorption experiments to understand a number of nonlinear optical processes in solids and gases on a sub-cycle time scale.

This project is executed by a small team of researchers and therefore, excellent team capabilities are of the essence.

Requirements:

A university degree in a relevant field plus doctorate.

  • PhD degree in physics or related field
- experience in ultrafast optics and attosecond science
- excellent understanding and technical capabilities of vacuum and XUV technology
- good programming skills (Python, Matlab, C++)
- very good communication skills in English
- team player
