UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR (ANALOG TO W3) (M/F/X) FOR INTERNAL MEDICINE, ENDOCRINOLOGY AND DIABETOLOGY:

as Director of the Diabetes Center with a clinical focus on endocrinology/diabetology (successor to Univ.
Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. Diethelm Tschöpe).

The Herz
- und Diabeteszentrum NRW (HDZ NRW), located in Bad Oeynhausen, is a University Hospital of the Ruhr-University Bochum and a national provider of maximum care in the specialized treatment of cardiac, vascular and metabolic diseases. With a capacity of 500 beds and 30,000 patients, including 15,000 in-patients, our hospital is one of the leading university treatment centers in Germany. Five clinics, plus multiple affiliated institutes and specialist centers, all under one roof, provide the best framework for patient care at the highest level. Our clinical infrastructure is complemented by ideal conditions for medical and translational research.

The structures at the Herz
- und Diabeteszentrum NRW facilitate a close and equal exchange of expertise between internal and interventional specializations, as well as other disciplines crucial to patient care, such as molecular imaging, anesthesiology and laboratory medicine. The HDZ NRW attaches great importance to harmonious coordination between the areas Diabetology/ Endocrinology, Cardiology/ Angiology, Electrophysiology/ Rhythmology, Thoracic Surgery/ Cardiovascular Surgery and Cardiac Medicine for Congenital Heart Diseases.

The HDZ NRW Diabetes Center Diabetology/ Endocrinology is a nationally and internationally certified top-quality treatment center for patients with diabetes mellitus of all kinds, including associated secondary diseases.

One clinical focus is the care of patients with vascular complications, including a vascular risk assessment.

The Diabetes Center also manages a gastroenterological unit for the entire hospital, offering all diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, and it also treats a wide range of hormonal diseases.

Requirements include a positively evaluated junior professorship, a postdoctorate thesis or comparable scientific achievement, and an approved specialist qualification in Internal Medicine with subspecialties Endocrinology and Diabetology.

In addition to particular suitability for academic teaching and a willingness to contribute to academic self-governance, other prerequisites include a high commitment to teaching and a readiness to engage in interdisciplinary scientific work and patient care, as well as the wish and proven ability to procure significant third-party-funded research projects.

The appointment procedure will be conducted by the Ruhr-University Bochum in agreement with the Herz
- und Diabeteszentrum NRW. Employment will be on the basis of private-law contract. University affiliation will be transacted according to HG NRW. Future professorships at the HDZ NRW are to be additionally affiliated to the University of Bielefeld, within the framework of a contractual cooperation between the Ruhr-University Bochum, the University of Bielefeld and the HDZ NRW. Successful appointment to the RUB will also entail membership of the Medical Faculty OWL at the University of Bielefeld.
