Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Underwriter based in one of our German offices in Cologne, Frankfurt or Munich to join the Casualty team, with a focus on the corporate business.

We are seeking an individual who is energized, passionate and who is always striving towards excellence.

You should be comfortable working closely with actuaries, the Claims team and underwriters from across the broader team. In addition, necessary character, relationship building and negotiating skills to help lead and further build a profitable book of business are of the upmost importance. The successful candidate will be focused on a positive customer experience, while maintaining sound underwriting discipline. This position is a great fit for an experienced Underwriter looking to expand their responsibilities and underwriting knowledge with an experienced and well-regarded unit within a top global insurance company.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develop and grow the profitable book of casualty business

• Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships

• Underwrite assigned accounts while ensuring appropriate analysis and documentation

• Work in a fast-paced, bottom line-oriented environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity

• Maintain awareness of the competitive environment and risk profile of their assigned region

• Effectively communicate BHSI value proposition and demonstrate leadership in the region

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• 5+ years of casualty underwriting experience

• Existing broker and customer relationships, or the experience and ability to develop strong broker and customer relationships quickly

• Strong underwriting acumen and attention to detail

• Experience and strong understanding of policy forms, including broker manuscripts; it's coverage intent, structure, and application; how it would respond in certain claim scenarios

• Strong collaboration and team building skills

• Strong communication skills including negotiation, communications and presentation experience and customer meeting experience with an ability to obtain valuable insights into company exposures via dialogue with senior executives

• Degree or equivalent education, and/or strong insurance qualifications.

• Some travel will be required

• Fluency in German and English
