Project description:

Trauma remains one of the leading causes of death especially in people below the age of 45.

We aim to unravel the pathomechanisms leading to barrier and organ dysfunction in order to advance diagnostic and preventive strategies.

The outcome of trauma is strongly influenced by body weight. Furthermore, factors released from adipose tissue correlated with posttraumatic multiple organ failure.

Therefore, this project will investigate how trauma impacts the metabolic and endocrine function of white adipose tissue and how this contributes to posttraumatic immune responses and organ dysfunction.

The project includes a broad spectrum of methods and state-of-the-art in vitro and in vivo models as well as clinical studies.
