Steam turbines are thermal turbomachines that are used in a multitude of processes such as power generation or the process industry. Steam turbine technology is a current key technology for enabling the decarbonization of our society. Central aspects are – among others – performance, reliability, flexibility, availability, and affordability of these machines. Furthermore, an increasing focus is put on new processes, that for example involve hydrogen or nuclear fusion as a source of energy.
Several research associate positions are currently to be filled at the Institute of Thermal Turbomachinery and Machinery Laboratory (ITSM) at the University of Stuttgart, all with a focus on steam turbine technology. The ITSM has over several decades accrued legacy research knowledge in this field, in specific in the areas of aerodynamics, aeromechanics, condensation and coarse water droplet erosion of low-pressure steam turbines. We perform numerical and experimental research involving state-of-the-art facilities. The current positions will involve research activities on the numerical and on the experimental side.
As a research associate, you will have the possibility to pursue a PhD degree. Furthermore, you will be involved in the general teaching activities at the institute as a teaching assistant and in the supervision of students.
