Job Description

Upper School (G9-12) Associate Principal at FIS in Oberursel, Germany**Reports to: Upper School Principal

Application Deadline: 1 September 2023 /
Start Date: 1 August 2024


The Associate Principal's primary focus is to support the Upper School Principal with any aspect required to ensure the effective development and implementation of the learning program with specific reference to Grades 9-12.

The Associate Principal will take a leadership role in the areas of instruction, supervision, curriculum, student activities, communicating with school-wide support services, student conduct, emergency planning, and safety.

The Associate Principal will report to and assist the Upper School Principal, assuming the principal's responsibility in his absence. The post holder will be required to teach 20% full time equivalent (FTE).

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passionate about the unique needs of 912 learners in the FIS context
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
  • Strong organizational ability and initiative
  • Knowledge of and experience with 912 curriculum development, particularly the IB diploma
  • Experience as an effective leader with a successful teaching background
  • M.A./M.Ed./M.Sc. and relevant administrative credentials preferred

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties of the position include but will not be limited to those on the list that follows:
Instruction

  • Member of the Upper School 612 leadership team that implements, supervises, and evaluates curriculum
  • Supports the school's strategic plan, and complies with board policy and relevant upper school regulations and protocols
  • Supervises and evaluates the effective integration of technology into the classroom to enhance, enrich, and support student learning
  • Provides leadership to counselors, year heads, and middle level leaders
  • Ensures a safe and positive atmosphere
  • Supports the extracurricular life of the school, encouraging students to get involved in activities outside the classroom
  • Develops and supports student leadership opportunities
  • Supports and supervises student sponsored events and leadership committees along with the student leadership program currently in development
  • Guides and supports the 912 advisory/homeroom program development
  • Coordinates and supports the collaboration of learning support, counselors, grade leaders, and ELA in 912 to ensure families are supported across the program
  • Applies disciplinary guidelines to ensure consistency and learning outcomes of a restorative nature for all students
Teachers and Support staff

  • Evaluates colleagues in accordance with prescribed procedures
  • Provides coaching and support for middle level leaders
  • Effectively contributes to recruiting
  • Uses data to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning
Communication

  • Contributes to public relations within the FIS community, including meeting regularly with parents, and providing articles for the school's publications and faculty and staff bulletins
  • Ensures parents are well informed about school issues and events
  • Interact positively with the local community
Professional Development

  • Promotes and seeks opportunities for faculty and staff professional growth
  • Models continuous learning and a growth mindset
Facilities

  • Works with the 612 Upper School leadership team and the Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations to ensure maintenance and upgrading of the school building
  • Participates in the design of a school of the future, so that teachers are well resourced
Administration

  • Works in partnership with the school leadership team and administrative council to achieve school objectives, in particular with the MS Associate Principal to align program and opportunities for student leadership, trips, advisory, etc
  • Serves and leads committees as requested by the Upper School Principal
  • Promotes and models the use of technology to access, analyze, and interpret school data to focus efforts for improving student learning and productivity
  • Is responsible for administering the teacher substitute protocol, including the training of substitute teachers
  • Contributes to the development of the schedule for students and teachers
  • Supports the scheduling of students from Grades 91
  • Other duties as assigned by the Upper School Principal
