Responsibilities:

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties
- conduct original theoretical physics research into the properties of quantum systems whose long-range interactions are described by complex graphs and how such systems are realized in quantum computers based on Rydberg atoms
- develop Tensor Network algorithms for describing quantum systems with long-ranged interactions
- manage the research project on a day-to-day basis and regularly report progress to D. Jaksch
- write research papers for internationally refereed journals and presenting results at national and international conferences
- engage with theory and experimental colleagues with the aim to establish scientific collaborations
- contribute to the positive atmosphere, maintenance and smooth running of the group, as required
- contribute to the intellectual life of the research group, including participating in video and teleconference meetings as required, and travelling for national and international workshops and meetings
- contribute to the writing of project reports required and assisting with other reasonable practical and administrative duties as required


Requirements:

A university degree in a relevant field.

Excellent knowledge of quantum mechanics and familiarity with quantum optics and/or the physics of ultracold atoms. A proven track record of high-quality research in a relevant field and corresponding research publications in international journals. Expertise in numerical methods for the study of many-body quantum systems is desired.
