Research Position

The research assistant should help to develop an intelligent tutoring system which supports students in learning a programming language (Python or Java). In particular, students should receive guidance during programming exercises via AI/MLbased functions. Additionally, the system shall model the skill gain over time via machine learning methods. Beyond development, the ITS shall be evaluated in user studies and the study results should be published.
Your Tasks

- development of an intelligent tutoring system for programming (50 %)
- evaluation of the ITS in empirical studies (20 %)
- support in teaching (20 %)
- publications and presentation of research results (10 %)

Your Profile

We expect
- scientific university degree (e. g. master's degree) in computer sicence, artificial intelligence, cognitive science or a comparable field
- very good programming skills in Python
- prior knowledge in machine learning
- very good written and oral English skills
- independent, self-reliant and dedicated style of work
- strong organizational and coordination skills
- ability to quickly grasp new topics and methods
- interest in interdisciplinary research and collaboration

Preferred experience and skills

- prior experience with conducting user studies
- prior experience in user-centered design and user interface design
- knowledge regarding methods of educational data mining, intelligent tutoring systems, or learning analytics
- prior experience with scientific publishing and communication
- prior experience in teaching
- prior experience in science communication
- knowledge of the German language
