Beschreibung

The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is Europe's leading center for contract research and development in the field of laser technology.

In the 'Surface Technology and Ablation' department, laser-based production of high-performance functional layers (thin film processing) has been developed together with renowned companies for more than 15 years.

The main research areas of the working group 'Thin Film Processing' are:

  • Additive manufacturing of electronic functional layers for sensor technology, hydrogen technology, battery layer systems, microelectronics, etc.
  • Tribological, anticorrosion and antistick coatings
  • Development of suitable machine technology and process control as well as integration of thin film processes into process chains

The common thread here is the use of laser radiation for the thermal post-treatment of functional coatings and component surfaces to produce the desired functional properties.

In addition to the development of process control and machine technology, the testing of these solutions in close cooperation with potential industrial users is essential for the realization of innovative process chains and new high-performance material combinations.

What you will do

For project work in research and development, we are looking for an employee to join our dynamic team in the field of thin film processes.

We value an open and forward-looking way of working in which creativity coupled with personal ambition and teamwork can flourish.

Within the scope of industrial projects and publicly funded projects, the future of laser-based thin film processing is being shaped in close cooperation with industrial partners from e.g.

automotive engineering, aerospace, medical technology and electrical engineering.

The field of activity includes:

  • Collaboration in the acquisition of new research and development projects
  • Presentation of your results at project meetings with our industrial customers and at conferences in a national and international environment.
  • Supporting simulation/modeling if necessary
  • Supervision of working students and bachelor / master thesis

What you bring to the table

You have completed a master's degree at a university (TH, TU, U) in the field of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics or a comparable field.

Ideally, you have already gained experience in plant development / automation and basic knowledge in the field of laser technology.

The job requires a responsible and independent way of working. We expect above-average commitment, great initiative, open and team-oriented communication, and a convincing appearance towards our customers. In addition to excellent German language skills, very good English language skills are a prerequisite for our international activities.

What you can expect
The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT offers scientists, in addition to professional and personal development:

  • an exciting and challenging field of work in applied research
- tasks with responsibility and creative freedom
- close cooperation with science and industry
- possibility to do a PhD at RWTH Aachen University in combination with industry-related project work, excellent equipment with machines, devices, laboratories, workshops.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis and is initially temporary. Employment, remuneration and social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD).

With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process.

As a pioneer and catalyst for groundbreaking developments and scientific excellence, Fraunhofer helps shape society now and in the future.
