European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany.

It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines.

The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.

To support our Finance and Controlling group we are now looking for a


Finance Officer (f/m/d) Grant Management, part-time (20hrs/week)

The Position

  • Administrative and financial management of thirdparty funded projects in compliance with the guidelines of the respective funding organizations and internal financial rules, like financial statements, call for payments, record keeping, time recording and time sheets, budget planning and controls, monitoring of deadlines, end of year closing, control of financial documents
  • Organize and facilitate external audits (first and secondlevel audits) in compliance with the guidelines of the respective funding organizations
  • Further improvement of standards and processes
  • Reporting of European XFEL thirdparty funding activities
  • Liaise with funding organizations and other external partners as well as project staff and colleagues of other administrative groups

Requirements:


  • Background in Economics, Finance or Accounting (Bachelor) or completed commercial or administrative apprenticeship and/or a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of thirdparty funding regulations (e. g. BMBF, DFG, Horizon Europe) is an asset
  • German and English proficiency
  • Confident handling of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
  • Ability to work structured and with a sense of responsibility and reliability
  • Good organizational skills, a high attention to detail and accuracy and confidence in handling budgets and numbers
  • Selfmotivated, serviceoriented, flexible and able to prioritize
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently in a team
