The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society.

The school offers master's programmes, executive education and doctoral programmes, distinguished by interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching, as well as outstanding research.

Its extensive international network positions it as an ambassador of good governance, characterised by public debate and engagement. The school was founded in 2003 by the Hertie Foundation, which remains its major funder. The Hertie School is accredited by the state and the German Science Council.

The Hertie India Initiative seeks to build meaningful partnerships with educational and policy institutions in India.

These partnerships are meant to contribute to Hertie's growing student body from India, as well as to its alumni community.

This initiative is housed within the office of the Managing Director of Hertie School in Berlin and collaborates closely with the Hertie India representative function based out of India.

The Student Assistant will report to the Managing Director and Hertie School India Representative.


Student assistant (gn) part-time (10 hours/week)
The start of the contract should be as soon as possible, the desired term is at least 24 months.


Your tasks:

  • Assisting with project conceptualization through landscape research and preparing concept notes
  • Managing overall program monitoring and evaluation by tracking progress on individual projects and partnerships
  • Conducting partner outreach activities, which includes staying abreast of institutional activities and drafting newsletters
  • Conducting research on topics relevant to Indo-German relations, and key policy topics relevant to each geography that match Hertie's expertise
  • Fostering meaningful connections with Hertie students from India, collecting relevant feedback towards curriculum, administration, and German languagelearning.
  • Being responsible for overall knowledge management of the program, closely tracking and document activities conducted my team members in India and Germany.
  • Coordinating with the Office of the Managing Director towards travel and logistics planning for delegation visits to Berlin.
  • Assistance in the planning and implementation of policy events relevant to India students and Hertie's India partners in Berlin.

Your profile:

  • Enrollment at the Hertie School (as part of the incoming cohort
  • Class of 2025 or later)
  • At least 2 years of fulltime work experience which involved you working in public policy, international development, or international relations
  • Demonstrated work and interest in topics relevant to one or more of the following topics: Indo-German relations, Sustainability, Digital Governance, Human Rights, International Security, Higher Education
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills
  • Skilled at using design and communication tools collaboratively (Powerpoint, Excel, Canva)
  • Agile and independent way of working
  • Organizational strength, communication skills, reliability and flexibility
  • Knowledge of or established network in South Asia (especially Pakistan, Bangladesh) policy and relations is an advantage
  • Initial experience in event organization and project management is an advantage
