Research Associate: Laser-based Semiconductor - Aachen, Deutschland - Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft
Beschreibung
The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is Europe's leading center for contract research and development in the field of laser technology.
In the competence field "Surface Technology and Ablation", laser treatment of surfaces and functional layers (thin film processing) has been developed together with renowned companies for more than 15 years.
MEMS sensors are now virtually ubiquitous and can be found in a variety of mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, fitness wristbands and transportation devices.
A new approach involves the vertical monolithic integrated assembly of MEMS and electronic circuits (ASIC), which requires selective laser crystallization to produce the necessary layer function.
In perspective, this should allow the sensors to be made smaller and more powerful. The process approach can also be used for quantum technology. The main research topics of the working group "Thin Film Processing" are:
- Laser-based manufacturing of electronic functional coatings for microelectronics and quantum technology, sensor technology, hydrogen technology, battery coating systems, etc.
- Tribological, anticorrosion and antistick coatings
- Development of suitable machine technology and process control as well as integration of thinfilm processes into process chains
The common thread here is the use of laser radiation for the thermal post-treatment of functional coatings and component surfaces to produce the desired functional properties.
In addition to the development of process control and machine technology, the testing of these solutions in close cooperation with potential industrial users is essential for the realization of innovative process chains and new high-performance material combinations.
What you will do
For project work in research and development, we are looking for an employee to strengthen our dynamic team in the field of thin film processes.
We value an open and forward-looking way of working, in which creativity coupled with personal ambition and teamwork can unfold.
Within the framework of industrial projects and publicly funded projects, the future of laser-based thin-film processing is being shaped in close cooperation with industrial partners from e.g.
automotive engineering, aerospace, medical technology and electrical engineering. The field of activity includes:
- Scientific and administrative lead of projects with a focus on selective laser crystallization of semiconductors for microelectronics
- Collaboration in the acquisition of new research and development projects
- Presentation of your results at project meetings with our industrial customers and at conferences in a national and international environment.
- Support and further development of laserbased machines
- Supporting simulation/modeling if necessary
- Supervision of working students and bachelor / master thesis.
What you bring to the table
You have completed a master's degree at a university (TH, TU, U) in the field of physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, materials engineering or a comparable field.
In addition to excellent German language skills, very good to excellent English language skills are a prerequisite for our international activities.
What you can expect
The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT offers scientists, in addition to professional and personal development:
- an exciting and challenging field of work in applied research
- close cooperation with science and industry
- possibility to do a PhD at RWTH Aachen University in combination with industry-related project work, excellent equipment with machines, devices, laboratories, workshops.
The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can be filled on a part-time basis and is initally temporary.
With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process.
As a pioneer and catalyst for groundbreaking developments and scientific excellence, Fraunhofer helps shape society now and in the future.
