Beschreibung
The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg, Germany is the largest solar research institute in Europe.

With a staff of about 1.400, we are committed to promoting a sustainable, economic, secure and socially fair energy supply system based on renewable energy sources.

We contribute to this through our main research areas of energy provision, energy distribution, energy storage and energy utilization.

Through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, spin-off companies and global collaborations, we are shaping the sustainable transformation of the energy system.

Power electronics are a central component of renewable energy systems. Due to their great potential, silicon carbide-based devices are attracting more and more interest.

In the newly founded group "Laser-Matter Interaction", we are dealing with the process engineering and materials science issues, which are very diverse and complex.

You want to actively shape the energy transition as part of an interdisciplinary institute? Then let's contribute to it together As a group leader, you will build up the newly founded group "Laser-Matter Interaction" and steer the research activities in the field of laser-based process technology for silicon carbide.

You will have a variety of characterization methods at your disposal, including a pump-probe setup, a wide range of laser sources and the expertise of many people.

What you will do

  • You are significantly involved in setting up the new group "Laser-Matter Interaction". This includes the selection and recruitment of scientific staff, including at least one PhD student, and their supervision.
  • Your tasks also include the establishment of a thematic (power electronics/SiC processing) network with industrial partners and research institutions.
  • You will be involved in the acquisition of industrial funds and publicly funded projects and will manage these projects.
  • You will also attend conferences and trade fairs.
  • Ideally, you can write and submit invention reports.

What you bring to the table

  • You have a university degree (ideally with a doctorate) in physics, chemistry, materials science or a comparable field.
  • In addition, you have already gained experience in supervising scientific staff (including master theses and ideally doctorates) as well as in acquiring thirdparty funding and publicly funded projects.
  • You are an expert in at least two of the following fields: Laser Technology, Pump-Probe Microscopy, Silicon Carbide Semiconductors and/or Power Electronics.
  • You can develop and implement visions, strategies and the corresponding goals in coordination with all stakeholders.
  • In addition, you see the benefits of diversity in organizations and ensure that your employees can develop and contribute their personality and potential in accordance with the principles of equal opportunity and fairness.
  • You have a good knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Programming skills are an advantage.
  • Last but not least, we are impressed by your very good written and spoken German and English.

What you can expect

  • You will work with one of the most popular employers on a par with the best.
  • Openminded colleagues are happy to welcome new talent into their ranks.
  • We offer flexible working hours and give you the opportunity to work from home.
  • We also foster a cooperative working atmosphere and open communication.

  • You can participate in attractive sports and health programs and afterwork activities.
  • If required, we offer flexible daycare and kindergarten programs at special rates for your children.
  • Life situation coaching, homecare eldercare, further training and much rounder off our offer.
