Recycling is a high-growth area for the future, fitting perfectly with the broader trend towards a circular, low-carbon economy.

In Hydro, Recycling is one of the strategic growth pillars with ambitious targets in use of post consumed scrap in our production.

Business unit (BU) Recycling within Aluminium Metal operates 5 recycling plants in Europe, 2 in the US, 1 scrap processing plant in Germany and is currently growing.

To deliver on the ambitious recycling strategy we are looking to strengthen our team with a

Scrap and Raw Material Purchaser (M/F/d) Germany / East Europe

Challenges that will make you grow

Learn, manage and grow aluminium scrap and raw material sourcing to relevant Hydro plants in Europe with main focus on supply to our recycling plant in Rackwitz, D
Maintain and further develop the existing supplier portfolio
Identify and qualify potential new scrap suppliers in Germany and Eastern Europe (PL, CZ, SK, HU, Baltics)
Perform supplier audits with focus on quality, HSE, CSR and compliance
Drive qualification and usage of new scrap types at relevant plants including potential preprocessing
Contract negotiation and order administration of raw material purchases including agreements for preprocessing/upgrading of scrap
Record and report on supplier performance / handling of claims and complaints as basis for supplier rating
Collect and provide scrap market intelligence and establish volume and price forecasts
Develop strategic scrap sourcing plan for the region and participate in business planning process for the BU
Partner with site personnel and Sales Managers to understand customer requirements and demand

You will be responsible to cover the aluminium scrap market in above mentioned areas and secure supply to our operations, develop new opportunities and contribute to growing our recycling activity.

Qualifications that will help you get ahead
Desired qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Business, Supply Chain or Logistics
Minimum 12 year experience in a commercial position
Fluent in German and English, both written and oral, any other language skills will be considered an advantage (especially Eastern European)

Location & Travel:

Position will be based in D Rackwitz

Heavy travel expected for this position, including international. Travel required to build relationships with sourcing network and internal support system. Travel may also be required for training purposes (i.e. visits to other Hydro plants globally, Seminars, Continuing Education, etc.).
