Duties:


The Transmitter Plant Supervisor is a senior Foreign Service National supervisor at the USAGM Germany Transmitting Station and reports directly to the USAGM Station Manager.

The station consists of two broadcast transmitting plants (sites), Lampertheim and Biblis, separated by 20km. The Lampertheim site serves as a regional Uplink/Downlink satellite earth station.

Both sites operate 24 hours per day, seven days a week, for the reception of broadcast programming from USAGM studios and then re-transmitting the programs using high-power shortwave (SW) broadcast transmitters connected to large directional SW curtain antenna arrays and Satelite systems.


The Transmitter Plant Supervisor manages the operation and maintenance of the high-power shortwave broadcast transmitting, antenna systems (at both sites), Satelite Earth station, and the station's LAN IT network; and typically supervises ten (locally employed) Radio Electronic Broadcast Transmitter Technicians, Assistant Transmitter Plant Supervisor, and a LAN administrator.

The Transmitter Plant Supervisor has property accountability for assigned systems and equipment. This position requires the incumbent to be certified as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).


The office for this position is located at the Lampertheim site, where the USAGM Station Management and Administrative sections are co-located.

The supervisor can be at either Lampertheim or Biblis sites as operational/maintenance requirements demand.

The incumbent may be required to supervise the installation, upgrades, or removal of broadcast transmission systems in support of other USAGM Transmitting Stations or affiliate broadcasters.


Qualifications and Evaluations:


  • Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:

  • Five (5) years of experience in the equipment, operations, maintenance with a major international highpower shortwave transmitting facility is required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Education Requirements:
Completion of secondary school and at least an apprenticeship in the radio communications field required. (Please attach both documents).

  • Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:

  • English (fluent) in speaking/reading/writing is required.
  • German (fluent) in speaking/reading/writing is required.
This may be tested.
