Metallic Materials & Processes Research & Technology Specialist (d/f/m):

Do you want to shape the future Airframe in Airbus? If your answer is "yes", we invite you to join our Airframe Research & Technology (R&T) team in Hamburg - Germany An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Metallic Materials & Processes R&T Specialist.

Are you willing to collaborate with a diverse and multidisciplinary team? You will join and work as part of a highly motivated transnational Airframe M&P R&T team that drive and contribute to R&T Innovative Projects on Material & Processes Technologies, in close cooperation and interaction with a wide variety of disciplines: From Airframe Materials & Processes, through Manufacturing Engineering, Design & Stress, Customer Services and different customer Programs.

This role is also available with reduced weekly hours and an adapted scope of tasks.

You will be working at the largest production site for civil aircraft situated in Hamburg. Its location on the southern banks of the river Elbe includes the option to commute by ferry. Your tasks and responsibilities:


  • Driving and executing R&T M&P Projects targeting Metallic Materials & Manufacturing Processes, innovative and automated nondestructive inspection systems, targeting current and future aircraft, in close cooperation and interaction with the responsible technical discipline within Airframe Materials & Processes, and as well with all relevant contributors (Manufacturing Engineering, Design, Stress, Customer Services, Program,)
  • Driving Airframe M&P R&T research projects, targeting the Components of Tomorrow, following the corresponding activities/projects (Time/Cost/Quality) at R&T M&P level and proactively looking for synergies on the wide M&P community scope, having always as key pillar sustainability and endtoend life cycle management
  • Key contributor to National and European Funded Frameworks, identifying the key Material & Process R&T initiatives to maximize external funding
  • Responsible for project proposals, including corresponding followup and reporting to the funding bodies, as required.
  • Manage Projects for M&P R&T in Metallic Materials & Manufacturing Processes, including residual stress and metallurgical characterisation: Being accountable for the project definition and performance, as per R&T Program nomination.
  • Airbus M&P R&T Link to National Funded Contracts / external bodies in Germany (LuFo) and as well to European funding frames.
  • Seeking for continuous improvement and simplification
  • Foster innovation and new technologies from customer market

Desired skills and qualifications:


  • PhD in Engineering related to Mechanics, Material Science, Physics or similar.
  • Demonstrated experience on Metallic materials and manufacturing processes (e.g. Cold Spray, process monitoring and machine learning techniques, with overall Materials & Processes background
  • Experience with program management / project management
  • Demonstrated experience with Research Institutes and Universities, and links to industrial partners
  • Experience with working in a team atmosphere: Ability to work across functions
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with an ability to evaluate and assess complex issues
  • German and English languages to negotiation level.
  • Ability to do some travel for business.
  • Experience with Nondestructive tests and inspection techniques
  • Experience with Partner & Subcontractor Management
