Responsibilities:

The General Counsel EMEA (M/F/d)

  • Provides counsel on a broad range of topics and leads the Company in matters involving complex legal issues
  • Identifies the need for, and participates in the definition and development of policies, procedures and programs which address areas of risk and ensure compliance with the law
  • Ensures the delivery of quality, timely and costefficient legal services
  • Develops and implements protocols, infrastructure, and systems to manage legal matters as appropriate for a corporation which operates internationally. Engages and oversees work of outside counsel
  • Provides legal advice in areas of significant organizationwide impact, including the formulation of strategic plans
  • Serves as principal legal advisor for the Board of Directors and senior management, providing legal advice on a broad range of topics, including real estate, corporate/commercial, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, banking, tax, insurance, financial services, immigration, information technology, trade compliance, litigation, regulatory and corporate governance
  • Remains current with developments in the law; understands the medical device business including issues and defenses involved with cases or matters
  • Identifies legal risks, educates senior management on risks, and mitigates risks through implementation of appropriate measures such as the careful review, negotiation, drafting and administration of agreements and other legal documents
  • Ensures that all legal requirements affecting the organization are researched and considered, and that legal advice is provided accordingly.
  • Ensures that the organization is effectively represented in any legal action in which it is involved Advises the organization on relevant procedures regarding interactions with government and nongovernment organizations, stakeholders, and the likeThe General Counsel EMEA (M/F/d) is
  • Responsible for management of the delivery of legal services to support all EMEA subregions and regions, as well as administrative and legal affairs delegated by the Global General Counsel
  • Adept in key anticorruption laws, anticompetition laws, regulatory, tax, import/export laws and practices as well as corporate governance skills
  • Business Fluent in English (oral and written) with German being a strong plus
  • Understanding of Japanese norms and culture and has a distinct cultural awareness Able to educate, upskill and train team members and has demonstrated leadership skills and success in managing a team of lawyers and paraprofessional staff
Your qualification

  • European fully licensed lawyer in good standing
  • Longstanding practice in an inhouse law department
  • Experience working in an international environment
  • Demonstrated ability to be an effective leader of a team of lawyers and paraprofessionals
  • Experience advising and counselling senior executive leadership and partnering with them to understand their needs and to develop strategy for meeting needs
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a peer and integral member of executive management team and experience collaborating with complimentary functions such as Compliance and Audit
  • Budget management of a Legal Function
  • Health care compliance and risk assessment experience a plus
  • Experience with law department methodologies, including document management, priority management and contract management
  • Proven track record of strong negotiation, communication, organizational and people management skills and the ability to influence and build relationships without direct authority
