drive to expand research excellence and in light of its close involvement with the expansion of the Helmholtz Institute
for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS), Saarland University is looking to further strengthen its position as a leading
interdisciplinary research centre. Key areas of research are located at the interface of medicine, bioinformatics,
pharmaceutical science and drug development, with research being conducted both in the university's Faculty of
Medicine and in its core research field 'NanoBioMed'.

W3 Professorship in Structural Biology

The position is a permanent (tenured) public sector appointment.
The professorship is intended as a bridge between the Faculty of Medicine and the Helmholtz Institute for
Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS). To this end, the professorship will also be affiliated with and supported by the
HIPS with additional funding provided for scientific staff and research equipment.

will be an expert in the field of structural biology, particularly with respect to cryogenic electron microscopy. Within the
next five years, the appointee will be expected to establish a leading international research group in the area of structure
- driven drug development including the structural elucidation of small molecules.
We are looking for an individual with an established international reputation in their field and an outstanding record in
both teaching and research who will contribute significantly to the progress of ongoing projects and will play a key role
in establishing new interdisciplinary and interfaculty collaborative projects.
The appointment will be made in accordance with the general provisions of German public sector employment law.
having obtained an advanced, post-doctoral research degree (Habilitation) or by having published an equivalent volume
of peer-reviewed research or by having been appointed to a junior professorship or equivalent position. We expect
applicants to have published high-quality academic papers on relevant topics and to have experience in securing external
concepts at all academic levels (Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral programmes), to teach in English, to provide dedicated
supervision to students working on their final-year theses and to support and foster junior researchers.
