The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society.

The school offers master's programmes, executive education and doctoral programmes, distinguished by interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching, as well as outstanding research.

Its extensive international network positions it as an ambassador of good governance, characterised by public debate and engagement. The school was founded in 2003 by the Hertie Foundation, which remains its major funder. The Hertie School is accredited by the state and the German Science Council.

We are looking to fill the position of


Associate - AI Certificate Programme (gn)
part-time (20 hours/week), to start as of 01 May 2024 or as soon as thereafter.


The Hertie School has recently received a grant from the Dieter-Schwarz Foundation to establish an executive certificate programme on AI and data science with participants from German public administration.

The programme, which comprises multiple teaching modules offered year-round, will be partially integrated into the existing Executive Master of Public Administration of the Hertie School.

The programme will be led by the School's Centre for Digital Governance and the Data Science Lab, with administrative support by the Curricular Affairs department.


Your tasks:

  • Support the curricular and administrative implementation of the AI Certificate.
  • Manage course enrolment for the EMPA, in particular for courses of the AI Certificate, and provide related student support.
  • Manage the budget of the programme, tracking expenses and handling invoices.
  • Check the syllabi of EMPA courses, with emphasis on AI Certificate courses, and ensure their compliance with the curricular requirements of EMPA courses.
  • Schedule courses and coordinate logistics, including room bookings and equipment setup.
  • Prepare teaching contracts for all instructors.
  • Liaise and coordinate with the programme coordinator of the AI Certificate and with other units involved in the running of the certificate.
  • Coordinate with instructors on course organisation, scheduling, and other arrangements, as required by the AI Certificate programme.
  • Coordinate the implementation of programme evaluations.
  • Develop and maintain internal information resources on the AI Certificate.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks of Curricular Affairs as required for the smooth operation of all programmes.

Your profile:

  • Professional experience, preferably involving budget and project management. Experience in higher education management is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of German language is an asset.
  • A structured and highly organised working style.
  • An interest in innovation and a willingness to continuously learn new skills and methods.
  • Analytical mindset for optimising processes and procedures.
  • Comfortable navigating complexity and balancing multiple tasks.
  • High level of attention to detail.
