The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society.

The school offers master's programmes, executive education and doctoral programmes, distinguished by interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching, as well as outstanding research.

Its extensive international network positions it as an ambassador of good governance, characterised by public debate and engagement. The school was founded in 2003 by the Hertie Foundation, which remains its major funder. The Hertie School is accredited by the state and the German Science Council.

To implement the Hertie School Policy Lab, a collaborative space of the Hertie School supported by PD - Berater der öffentlichen Hand GmbH - where faculty, researchers, students, alumni, and external stakeholders engage with socially relevant and current policy issues and contribute their expertise in solving public problems, the Curricular Affairs department is seeking to fill the following position as soon as possible:

Student Assistant Policy Lab (gn)
part-time (15 hours/week) basis.


Your tasks:

  • Support the organisation of various Policy Lab events and activities, including the Festival of Ideas and regular events such as Policy Breakfasts and Panel Discussions;
  • Create, manage, and proof content for the Policy Lab webpage on the Hertie School website as well as other information and communication outlets;
  • Support the operation of the Policy Lab Steering Committee, including the organisation of meetings and the documentation of the discussions;
  • Liaise with other administrative units of the Hertie School as required to support Policy Lab activities;
  • Student communication on tasks relevant to the Policy Lab;
  • Support with invoice processing and budget management for the Policy Lab;
  • Support with other administrative activities as needed by the Curricular Affairs unit.

Your profile:

  • Bachelor's degree and currently enrolled as a Master's student at a German university based in Berlin;
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written; knowledge of German is an asset;
  • Strong organisational skills; experience with event planning and coordination is a plus;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Strong problemsolving skills and the ability to find and implement solutions independently;
  • A creative mindset and a passion for learning new skills and techniques independently;
  • Good data management skills in Excel or the willingness to learn them;
  • Collaborative team player with an interest in contributing to the development of a highly diverse and international team.
