Institute for Theatre Studies at the Faculty of Philology is looking for two


Doctoral Positions with Focus on Transnational Theatre (m,f,x) for the period up to April 30, end of the first funding phase), then until May 31, 2028 if the overall project is successfully extended) with 25,8895 hours per week (TV-L E 13):

Your tasks:


  • Collaboration in the research group, contributions to its core topics
  • Independent research and further academic qualification (doctorate/PhD, alternatively in German or English)
  • Research trips, stays abroad with field studies, archive trips (all with own project budget)
  • Collaboration on joint publications
  • Participation in the group's program of events
  • Involvement in the organization of internationally oriented workshops and conferences
- first guided teaching activities with a total of approx. 3-4 thematically self-selected seminars during the entire period of employment (both funding phases together)


Your profile:


  • Aboveaverage university degree (Master) in the field of theater studies or dance studies or with a focus on theater/performance/aesthetics, e.g. in media studies, cultural studies, cultural anthropology, African studies, Latin American studies, art history, art education.
  • Knowledge of and a keen interest in experimental scenic/performative art forms, post
- or decolonial studies, and related theories

  • Research interests in at least one of the following fields are desirable: aesthetic theory, deconstruction, political philosophy, psychoanalysis, memory studies, infrastructures, extractivism, relationality
  • Interest in interdisciplinary and international collaboration with flat hierarchies
  • Very good knowledge of English, other languages are desirable
