Your team

  • You will be part of the Directorate General Market Infrastructures and Payments, more precisely the Directorate Digital Euro, which started the digital euro preparation phase in November 2023. During this phase the focus will be on further preparing for the development of a digital euro, building on the findings from the investigation phase.
  • We are looking to fill senior expert positions in the digital euro product proposition and rulebook development units.

These teams are responsible for:
- defining a best-in-class user experience for digital euro payments.
- contributing to the development of efficient end-to-end digital euro processes.
- engaging with market participants to develop the digital euro scheme rulebook.
- refining the proposed use cases by specifying the functional and non-functional requirements.
- working on the specifications for the offline digital euro.


Your role

  • As a Senior Market Infrastructure Expert, you will belong to one of the teams that carry out the preparatory work on:
  • Defining the digital euro proposition for consumers and merchants, inter alia, the end-user experience (including the digital euro app), end-user research, digital financial inclusion, and environmental aspects.
  • Defining the digital euro propositions for intermediaries, inter alia, the digital euro compensation model, the rollout approach, and the fit into the ecosystem.
  • Defining the digital euro usecases, inter alia, standards and requirements for frontend interactions in persontoperson, pointofsale and eCommerce digital euro payments. This includes also offline specifications both for pointofsale and persontoperson use cases.
  • Developing the digital euro rulebook, including the associated implementations specifications with a focus on frontend interactions in conjunction with the Rulebook Development Group.

Qualifications, experience and skills

  • Essential:
  • A master's degree or equivalent in business administration, economics, project management, finance, STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics), computer science or another relevant field (click here for details on degree equivalences);
- in addition to the above, a minimum of 7 years' professional experience (other than as a trainee or intern) in retail payments;
- proven analytical skills and experience in drafting concise and clear notes and reports;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.


Desired:
- experience on retail payment solutions with pan
  • European or global reach;
- knowledge of current payments schemes and/or solutions;
- functional/technical knowledge of the standards used for payments in the consumer to bank domain;
- experience in developing an offline or partially offline retail payment solution.

  • The contract offered will be fixed term until 31 January in line with the current timeline for the preparation phase.
