Job Description:

We are currently seeking an Expert in the field of Adaptation Policy, Monitoring & Evaluation to support and expand our science unit.

The successful applicant will strengthen our science team through proven expertise in Adaptation research, including approaches to Monitoring & Evaluation in this area, as well as with experience at the science-implementation interface and working with policy-makers.


You will contribute to the work of Climate Analytics' Science Team, specifically in the area of Adaptation Policy, internationally as well as within the EU.


The position contributes to two key projects:

the Horizon 2020 Project PROVIDE, led by HU Berlin, as well as the IKI-funded Sino-German Cooperation on Climate Change, led by GIZ.

Within both projects, you will be responsible for continuing the implementation of activities related to climate change adaptation policy, with a particular focus on Monitoring and Evaluation.

Both projects have successfully started and are continuously developed by a small team of capable experts. The position can therefore build on and expand established working relationships.

Your guidance and input will contribute to the successful delivery of project deliverables and advise the existing team on next steps.

Your Responsibilities

The key responsibilities associated with the position include:

  • Oversee and support the coordination of activities of two research projects on adaptation policy and M&E
  • Support and manage junior colleagues in the delivery of the projects
  • Actively engage with external project partners to further develop project deliverables in a codevelopment setting
  • Provide written analysis outputs (e.g. policy briefs, reports, blogs) that are both scientifically robust and adequately written to address the intended audience (e.g. regional decisionmakers with limited scientific training)
  • Design, manage and implement quantitative research and analytical projects in close collaboration with internal and external experts
  • Contribute to the planning, implementation and facilitation of regional workshops associated with the project delivery
  • Project development in the area of adaptation policy and M&E
  • Writing of scientific publications, reports, work papers and other information material
Your Profile

You will ideally have the following qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum three years of experience in adaptation policy making or policy-relevant climate adaptation research, with demonstrated expertise in M&E for adaptation
  • A Master's degree with relevant work experience or a PhD in in a relevant field
  • A good understanding of the Adaptation Strategies in an EU context, the Global Goal on Adaptation, as well as experience in adaptation planning
  • Experience with sciencebased policy making and strategy development, ideally in the context of development cooperation
  • Willingness and appropriate cultural sensitivity to work within intercultural settings
  • Solid understanding of the current science and policy landscape in the area of adaptation at the global and regional level and key knowledge gaps for effective implementation
  • Experience in planning and conducting participatory research and stakeholder engagement is an asset
  • A welldeveloped sense for team work, excellent networking skills and ability to interact with a diverse array of people
  • Experience in project management and coordination are an advantage
  • Willingness to travel regionally and internationally is required
  • Excellent English writing and verbal skills are a requirement; German skills are an asset
