Job Description:
We are currently seeking an experienced Climate Change Economist for maternity leave coverage as group lead and project lead based in Berlin.
As interim-group lead, you would be responsible for leading the group "Socio-economic impacts of climate change and financial implications of climate impacts" within the "Climate Science and Impacts Team".
Tasks include staff management and staff development for your group (2-3 members), overall coordination of existing projects, acquisition of funding through proposal writing and general engagement with funders and project partners, and progressing the research agenda and strategy for the group, including contributions to the strategy for the overall Climate Science and Impacts Team.
Your ProfileYou will ideally have the following qualifications and skills:
- A PhD in Climate Change Economics, in Climate Sciences with a background in economics or in another relevant field with 3-5 years of work experience as PostDoc or a Masters degree with at least 5 years of relevant work experience
- Experience in leading projects
- Experience in having staff responsibility and leading a team/group
- Experience in working with climate and climate impact data
- Proven programming and data analysis skills (at least one of the following: R, Python)
- Experience with climate impact analysis, especially modelling of extreme events and related (economic) damages would be an asset
- Experience in working with the financial sector (e.g. risk assessments, stress testing) would be an asset
- Excellent English writing and verbal skills are a requirement; basic German and French skills are welcome, but not required, other language skills are an asset
- Willingness to travel (also on short notice)
- Enthusiasm to work in a team as lead, to contribute to projects beyond disciplinary boundaries and to think outside the box
