Role Purpose


As Head of Legal for Sandoz ComOps in Germany, you provide strategic legal leadership through pro-active, in-depth, business-focused advice to the entity, as well as implementing initiatives and processes to keep and set standards and continue a culture of quality, integrity, ethical behavior, and responsibility.

You lead a team of in-house lawyers, assistants and paralegals.

You are a member of the Sandoz Ger-many ComOps Leadership Team (Sandoz Executive Committee - SEC) and provide strategic direction and thought leadership in various areas of the law relevant to the SEC in Germany, directly counselling associates at all levels in this entity.

You are responsible to analyze and identify legal risks and implica-tions, keeping the management informed of all new laws and regulations that may have potential implica-tions for the entity.

You are also supporting the entity in IP matters and closely collaborates with internal and external (IP) lawyers.
In addition, you are (i) coordinating and aligning all legal topics for Sandoz in Germany with other Sandoz in-house lawyers across the different legal entities, units and sites in Germany in your additional role as Country Legal Head Germany and (ii) member of the Sandoz Country Leadership Team (SCLT)


Your Key Responsibilities

  • Translates company visions into plans, directs their execution, and exerts an important influence to drive actions in all areas of the company.
  • Solves complex problems across multiple functions in an innovative way
  • Applies negotiation skills and persuasiveness to a significant number of internal and external contacts at highlevel management.
  • Leads continuation and implementation of key legal processes. Develops, recommends, and implements internal legal policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Manages legal risks by taking primary responsibility for the provision of legal advice and the management of legal risk, advising on all legal areas affecting the product lifecycle, incl. BD&L and M&A transactions, providing strategic and operational guidance. Leading and assisting in the management of litigation and instructing of external legal counsels
  • Monitors and assess the relevant environmental issues impacting legal risk in order to ensure recommended legal risk management approaches are appropriate with regard to the prevailing environment. Advises on all activities relating to the statutory obligations by providing legal advice and assistance to the local management. Informs Global/Region/SLT of areas which represent a legal risk and keeps them updated regarding key legal issues.
  • Adopts an active approach by providing daytoday legal services required to meet the business needs. Acts as a business partner and business focused to negotiate and draft basic transactions and contracts. Assists in management decision processes with robust risk with close collaboration with compliance
  • Supports and monitors work outside legal counsels, managing disputes, litigation, and investigations. Advise on local/regional public announcements and promotional material relating to specific products or alliances. Responsible for setting legal priorities, assuring quality and consistency of legal advice for developing standards
  • Manages the budget and resource allocation for the legal activity as needed and in alignment with the Country Head
  • Acts as company secretary for 3 Sandoz Germany entities

Minimum requirements

  • Graduate degree in Law / Admission to the (German) Bar
- + 7 years professional experience in Legal function, ideally in a law firm with exposure to the German healthcare and pharma law. An additional experience as in-house lawyer role at a sizeable Pharma company would be of advantage.

  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues, master Legal Excellence Standards, and committed to high performance and integrity standards
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken; along with a high capacity for influence and negotiation.
  • Proven ability to act positively when working under time pressure and with demanding clients.
  • Indepth experience in dealing with a high volume of activity that involves several, often complex, projects at the same time.
  • Professional and culturally sensitive work ethic
  • Proficiency in German and English (written and spoken)
