The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society.

The school offers master's programmes, executive education and doctoral programmes, distinguished by interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching, as well as outstanding research.

Its extensive international network positions it as an ambassador of good governance, characterised by public debate and engagement. The school was founded in 2003 by the Hertie Foundation, which remains its major funder. The Hertie School is accredited by the state and the German Science Council.

The Centre for Digital Governance of the Hertie School is looking for a


Student Research Assistant (f/m/div)
part-time (10 hours per week)

to support the project "Preserving Public Values in Privatised Digital Systems" (DigiPublicValues), under the supervision of Prof. dr. Gerhard Hammerschmid.

The project explores how public values can be preserved when the delivery of digitized public services is delegated to private actors.

It is funded by the DAAD as part of CIVICA- the European University of Social Sciences, and will be conducted in collaboration with Bocconi University, the European University Institute and the London School of Economics.


Your tasks:

  • Collection and analysis of data from documents and interviews
  • Support for case studies in different policy areas
  • Literature review

Your profile:
We are looking for a student enrolled at the Hertie School with:

  • Strong interest in digital governance and public administration
  • Strong English skills
  • Prior experience in policy analysis & research, including literature review, data collection and analysis (including conducting interviews and qualitative coding), and largescale benchmarking.
