Brief Description:


The Associate Corporate Counsel, Commercialization and Market Access, EUR/INT, is an integral member of the Legal department who provides legal advice and support to Jazz Pharmaceuticals' EUR/INT organizations, which currently consists of direct markets in Europe, Japan, Australia and partner markets around the world.

This role supports the strategic objectives of the organization through engagement and interaction with the Commercial, Medical, Regulatory and other key functions, both at a regional and an affiliates (country) level.

The Associate Corporate Counsel works with other members of the Legal department and stakeholders across the company, as well as external counsel, to support the company's overall objectives as needed within the region/organization.


The Associate Corporate Counsel has a broad-based knowledge of the laws and regulations governing pharmaceutical company activities within Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the EU.

Credible, commercially astute and pragmatic, the Associate Corporate Counsel is a solution-oriented decision maker.

The Associate Corporate Counsel has the ability to identify legal issues in a range of situations, including those outside their direct area of responsibility, and to work with the business to develop and implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies.

The person works with legal colleagues in the Intellectual Property and Commercialization and Market Access legal team, and other colleagues within the Legal, Corporate Affairs, and Government Affairs department.

The Associate Corporate Counsel also must have the ability to work collaboratively across a range of functions and departments.

The Associate Corporate Counsel is confident and proactive in their approach and concise, clear and unambiguous in his/her legal advice and other communications.


Essential Job Functions:


Responsibilities of the Associate Corporate Counsel, Commercialization and Market Access, EUR/INT:

  • Provide legal support to business activities in countries where the company's products are available (approved or supplied under named-patient basis) including, without limitation:
  • Assists to supporting the company's product launches and prelaunches activities in the EU, primarily in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and/or other countries of the EUR/INT region; and
  • Assists in providing guidance and support to brand teams on marketing strategies, promotional tactics and materials, and other activities associated with the commercialization of pharmaceutical products in the EU and/or other INT countries, primarily for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland;
  • Identifies legal issues to advise colleagues, assesses potential impact of those issues on business strategies and operations, and recommends and helps implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies, if necessary;
  • With guidance from the Head of Commercialization and Market Access, as well as other senior legal colleagues, partners with the Compliance function to ensure understanding of and adherence to the company's policies and procedures and to support the education activities associated with the Company's companywide compliance program;
  • Drafts, reviews and negotiates commercial contracts, including third party vendor agreements, service agreements, consulting agreements and other agreements related to their primary areas of responsibility;
  • Works collaboratively and creatively with internal clients and other functions in an individual capacity and as part of matrixed teams, to understand strategic objectives and assist in execution of agreedupon tactics;
  • Advises on the interpretation of legal documents and applicable laws and regulations in a manner that provides practical and timely legal advice on complex issues/concepts while properly managing the risk to the organization;
  • With guidance from the Head of Commercialization and Market Access, as well as other senior legal colleagues, participates in special projects as assigned and participates in crossfunctional teams and committees while demonstrating leadership ability to colleagues and business partners;
  • Stays informed about new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the company, and assists with development of new policies and training as needed;
  • Prepares and delivers relevant training as needed; and
  • Willingly assists Legal Department colleagues with projects and activities in areas outside of their primary areas of responsibility as needed to achieve corporate objectives, contribute to a collegial atmosphere and balance workloads.

Requirements of this position include:


  • Law degree;
  • Qualification as a lawyer/solicitor or equivalent;
  • 5+years of relevant legal pharmaceutical experience inhouse, with at least 2 years of experience supporting a commercial organization of a global pharmaceutical company (ideally experience with prescription and overthecounter drugs);
