Director/Associate Vice President Business Development (f/m/d)

Role:
Director/Senior Director Business Development; Permanent.

Direct Report:
Senior Vice President (SVP), Business Development based in the UK.

Hours:
Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Based within Europe, ideally Germany, France (ideally close to Switzerland), or Italy.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Director/Associate VP, Business Development, you will be joining our entrepreneurial Business Development (BD) Team. You'll support the SVP, Business Development by evaluating and establishing strategic partnerships across Germany, Switzerland, and Scandinavia. Commercializing Evotec's platforms and drug discovery expertise creating high-impact and high-value strategic R&D partnerships.


The Director/Senior Director, Business Development role is crucial for Evotec and will be a core part of the European BD team undertaking business development activities within the territory.

The Director/Senior Director, Business Development will regularly interface with Evotec Scientific Operation Teams, Therapeutic Area Leads, Alliance Management, and Senior Management.

This position is at the epicentre of Evotec's evolving R&D Partnership landscape and will be critical in helping identify, evaluate and translate opportunities in the marketplace; focusing on the partnering of Evotec's integrated discovery capabilities.

This role offers the flexibility of hybrid or office-based working.

Frequent regional travel to visit Evotec sites, partners, conferences and networking events plus an annual global sales meeting held within Europe.


  • Work with the SVP, Business Development to drive the overall business development strategy within the territory of Germany, Switzerland, and Scandinavia.
  • Establish Evotec as the partner of choice.
  • Grow new business revenue with existing partners and establish new business relationships within the region.
  • Secure and retain business for Evotec through professional, consultative and proactive activities directed at decisionmakers and decision influencers at new Partners.
  • Position Evotec as a primary or preferred provider for all discovery and development services with a focus on supporting Evotec's discovery services.
  • Interact with scientific operations and marketing to close new business and develop longterm relationships.
  • Interact positively and collaboratively with the global business development team.
Education, Qualifications and Experience (Essential)

  • At least 10 years' experience within the pharmaceutical, biotech, CRO, investing, consulting or similar industry(s).
  • Minimum BSc (preferably MSc, or PhD) in a Life Sciences discipline, with a preference for someone with experience (technical and commercial) in discovery biologics.
  • A minimum of 5 years' proven track record of success at a senior business development level across some combination of Germany, Switzerland, and Scandinavia; identifying opportunities and structuring, negotiating, and closing transactions including strategic alliances, large and complex partnership and/or licensing transactions incorporating research funding, milestones and royalties or equity.
  • Able to create both shortterm and longterm value establishing mutually beneficial relationships with Partners.
  • Experience and understanding of the requirements and challenges of drug discovery and development.
  • Able to lead the business development process, coordinate multinational teams and support deal negotiations to reach final agreements.
  • Analytical skills: Ability to read, analyse and interpret data and produce reports and documents to support closing arguments.
  • Must be fluent in oral and written English. German language skills are not essential but would be helpful.
