The Dept.

of Visceral, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital Dresden is one of the leading surgical departments for cancer treatment in Europe.

Implemented within the department is the Surgical Research Lab, which links molecular science with patient oriented research.

The lab is part of a multidisciplinary team of laboratories specialized in oncological and stem cell research on the Dresden University Campus, nationwide and internationally.

Starting at the next possible time, we are looking for a


PhD Student (f/m/x):

in a full time position, initially for a duration of 36 month.

The group headed by Mathieu Pecqueux concentrates on tumor immunology with a focus on cancers of the gastrointestinal tract.

We are focusing on the interactions of cancer cells and macrophages in relation to cancer progression as well as immunity to checkpoint inhibitors.

We use state of the art technologies such as 3D cultures (so called organoids) derived from patient cancers as well as organoid and macrophage cocultures to identify metabolic genes and pathways involved in cancer immune escape and resistance to checkpoint inhibitors.


Your profile:

- master or equivalent degree in biology, biomedicine or related sciences
- strong background in cell biology/molecular biology
- interest in advanced cell culture methods and molecular Engineering
- fluent in written and spoken English or German
- interest in clinical related science
