Postdoctoral Research Associate in Stable Isotope Analysis:

  • full-time (100 %)
  • A fulltime Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) appointment is available to contribute to the ERCfunded project

SUSTAIN:

Your tasks:

  • Prepare samples of carbonised plant remains for IRMS, measure stable isotope ratios of carbon and nitrogen, analyse and interpret the isotope data to address questions of intra-site and cross-regional variation in plant husbandry practices
  • Contribute to the development of the project database and research infrastructure
  • Develop data integration with other aspects of the project where appropriate
  • Publish research findings in peerreviewed journals and present at conferences
  • Assist in mentoring and supervising junior team members, including graduate students

Your profile:


  • In addition to the general requirements according to public services law, applicants must meet the recruitment requirements stipulated in 57 of the
- _Hochschulgesetz_ of Rhineland-Palatinate.

  • A successfully completed academic university degree
  • A PhD (or nearing completion) in environmental chemistry, archaeology, bioarchaeology, or a closely related field
  • Indepth experience in stable isotope ratio analysis of bioarchaeological remains
  • Proven ability to analyse, interpret and critically evaluate data
  • Excellent IT skills in the use of relevant software packages for data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly to meet the changing needs of the role
  • Very good written communication skills and excellent record of peerreviewed publications
  • The ability to interact professionally with a wide range of researchers, officials, the media and the public

Desirable qualifications and skills:

  • Good knowledge of archaeobotany and/or plant anatomy and ecology
  • Knowledge of European Neolithic archaeology and an interest in this field of study
