The University of Passau owes its strong visibility and good repute to excellent research,

With the aim of establishing a centre for methodological basic research, the Chair of Digital


Graduate Research Assistant (M/F/d)

Computer Linguistics or Digital Humanities
to start at the earliest opportunity. This is a full-time position based on a fixed-term contract for a
period of four years. Remuneration is in accordance with pay grade E13 of the German public
- sector collective agreement, TV-L; the salary step is dependent on your experience and
qualifications.

The aim of the position is to contribute to the establishment of the centre, which will actively
promote methodological research in the humanities in the context of the digital transformation.
The centre will support researchers and students at the University of Passau in their research
projects by offering advice and training. While the establishment of the centre is supported and
promoted primarily by the methodologically oriented units of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities,
the centre will involve other units of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities as well as from the Faculty
of Computer Science and Mathematics. The position will initially be located at the Chair of Digital
Humanities (Professor Malte Rehbein).


What we are looking for (requirements and desired qualifications)

  • University master's degree in digital humanities and/or computer linguistics, doctoral
degree preferred

  • Strong expertise in computational linguistics and/or digital humanities
  • Knowledge of research data management and open science
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent spoken and written German and English

Job description

  • Develop a survey on methodological practice in the humanities including a mapping to
computer-based methods/potentials

  • Organise events (conferences, workshops, taught courses and PR events)
  • Develop a concept for research data management
  • Develop a guideline for open research at the University of Passau
  • Offer consultation hours for methodological advice
  • Initiate partnerships within and outside the University of Passau
  • Carry out project acquisition and development activities (i.e. prepare funding proposals for
- the expansion of the centre)
  • Set up and implement a graduate programme on methodological training
