  • Opportunity to participate in the Generation Airbus Community to expand your own network.

Your tasks and responsibilities

The master thesis focuses on realizing a secure and reliable hardware system based on capable state-of-the-art COTS technology for use in space missions.

A central challenge in this development is that individual components can always exhibit malfunctions.

To counter this, a fault tolerance is integrated into the system, by allowing individual hardware units to operate in parallel or to replace each other.

This contributes to the overall robustness and reliability of the system.

In the frame of this thesis a technically reasonable - commonly used - interface for the COTS based co-processing modules shall be specified.

This interface will allow a realization of an adequate FDIR layer in hard
- and software for the envisaged architecture. In the scope of this project, a novel latchup detection and protection chip which is capable of detecting potentially destructive events is evaluated. The system will also contain full electrical isolation to enable partial power down capability in order to allow TID reduction standby modes and seamless recovery of individual modules within the architecture. Potential failure propagation scenarios and adequate prevention will be analyzed as well as redundancy concepts. The FDIR system further contains a low level software layer operating on the reliable low-performance hardware to implement system monitoring, orchestration and recovery of the utilized co-processing modules.

The system shall be demonstrated in a use-case scenario for real-time target acquisition of ships in payload observations for slew maneuver guidance.

Therefore a virtual satellite/payload simulator based on sentinel imagery has to be implemented and integrated into the hardware setup.

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company's success, reputation and sustainable growth.
