The Joby team of more than 1,500 engineers and experts from various fields in the USA has received further reinforcement in mid-2020: Joby Germany GmbH at Sauerlach near Munich is contributing its engineering expertise to the development of our electric aircraft (eVTOL = electric vertical take-off and landing) on its way to series production, underscoring Joby Aviation's continued growth.     (Senior) Manufacturing Engineer

    In this role, you can expect a variety of interesting tasks related to transitioning prototype development of additive and conventional machining components into serial production:


    • You will oversee a multitude of mechanical assemblies starting from the basic design phase, working closely with the responsible designer


    • Developing work instructions in collaboration with the manufacturing team as well as Materials & Processes Team


    • You will be the lead contact for cost-effective and production-oriented design, with a focus on weight optimization


    • Developing manufacturing fixtures, clamping systems, and gauges


    • Creating easily understandable and fully defined manufacturing drawings and work instructions


    • Remote monitoring of production both at our location in Asia and with external suppliers, continuously optimizing the manufacturing process in terms of cost and process stability


    • You are responsible for your components until the final internal release

    Your profile:


    • Completed studies in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, manufacturing technology, or a comparable education


    • Experience with the applied standards and materials in the aerospace industry


    • Good knowledge in creating fully defined manufacturing drawings, particularly practical detail knowledge in the field of form and positional tolerancing (GD&T)


    • Experience with CAD design software such as Solidworks or Catia V6


    • Practical experience with industry-standard manufacturing processes, especially in CNC machining


    • Ideally, you are familiar with certification requirements (FAA, EASA)


    • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills in an English-speaking work environment


    • Ideally, you have a hands-on mentality, enjoy regular exchanges with your colleagues in the USA and Asia via Zoom and Slack
