The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society.

The school offers master's programmes, executive education and doctoral programmes, distinguished by interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching, as well as outstanding research.

Its extensive international network positions it as an ambassador of good governance, characterised by public debate and engagement. The school was founded in 2003 by the Hertie Foundation, which remains its major funder. The Hertie School is accredited by the state and the German Science Council.


Within the Hertie School, the Curricular Affairs unit plays a pivotal role in planning, managing, and evaluating all credit-bearing activities for the four Master's degrees.

We are looking to fill out the following position:
Student Assistant - Curricular Affairs (20h/w)


The student assistant will support the team with multiple tasks: from aiding course enrolment and coordinating study exchanges to providing first-level student support and managing administrative tasks.

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the smooth functioning of our academic programmes.


Your tasks:

  • Support with course enrolment, mainly in the Executive Master of Public Administration but possibly including other programmes. This includes directly enrolling students in courses as well as processing course switches and auditing requests;
  • Provide firstlevel support for course instructors;
  • Liaising with other units on matters concerning programme information, communication, and student and instructor support;
  • Liaise with study exchange partner institutions and support outgoing and incoming exchange students;
  • Development and quality control of information resources for students and instructors;
  • General course management in the Campus Management System;
  • Other administrative support activities as needed by the Curricular Affairs unit.

Your profile:

  • Bachelor's degree and currently enrolled as a Master's student at a German university based in Berlin;
  • Excellent skills in English, both oral and written; knowledge of German is an asset;
  • Structured working style and good communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and high intercultural competence;
  • Strong problemsolving skills and the ability to find and implement solutions independently;
  • A creative mindset and a passion for learning new skills and techniques independently;
  • Assertiveness, direct communication, and the ability to set boundaries when necessary;
  • Good data management and analysis skills are necessary, especially in MS Excel;
  • Collaborative team player with an interest in contributing to the development of a highly diverse and international team.
