The Institute of Fluid Dynamics is conducting basic and applied research in the fields of thermo-fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics in order to improve the sustainability, the energy efficiency and the safety of industrial processes.


The Group Interface phenomena is looking for a
PhD Student (f/m/d) Flow-driven reaction fronts with particle formation - lab and microgravity experiments.



Your tasks:


  • Prepare, perform, evaluate and publish the lab and microgravity experiments, including instrumentation and all related tests (support for the specific microgravity aspects will be given by the supervisor)
  • Validate the numerical simulations of our international partners with the experimental results
  • Extend the model reaction systems in the direction of industrially relevant precipitation systems through additional laboratory experiments

Your profile:


  • Completed university studies (Master/Diploma) in the field of Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or a comparable discipline
  • Strong experimental skills, including setup construction (basic CAD knowledge), documentation, and data evaluation
  • Interest in fluid dynamics, precipitation chemistry, particle properties and image procecessing
  • Interest for the link to numerical simulations of the project partner and the interdisciplinary topic
  • Selfdependent working style, problemsolving skills in experimental setup and instrumentation
  • Good teamwork and communication skills in an international project team
  • Willingness to participate in business travels and campaigns for microgravity experiments, module tests, and international discussions
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Basic programming skills for data evaluation/image processing (e.g. MATLAB)
