in the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) "".

A major key to success in facing climate change and creating more resilient supply chains is the transformation of feedstocks from fossil resources to renewable raw materials.

Led by the Hamburg University of Technology, the CRC 1615 is developing processes and reactors that respond flexibly to the fluctuating properties of renewable raw materials, thus enabling self-adapting, more resilient process engineering.

Project A02:

Quantitative real-time 3D electrical impedance tomography of multiphase reactors

Project A02 develops the methodology of quantitative, real-time, 3D Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) for process monitoring in the SMART multiphase reactor for catalytic hydrogenolysis of glycerol.

In A02, EIT will be combined with synchronized capillary sampling of multiphase flows, converting impedance data into process variables like gas-holdup, bubble size distribution and phase flow rates.

An EIT measurement cell will be built featuring a higher number of electrodes than existing systems (32) for performing EIT over a frequency range (100 kHz-1 MHz) on water/glycerol/propanediol/hydrogen flows at temperatures up to 250°C and 50 bar H2 pressure.

Tailored measurement electronics and reconstruction algorithms will be developed.

YOUR TASKS

  • Work in a scientific project within the framework of the collaborative research center CRC 161
  • Development of an 3D electrical impedance tomography (EIT) measurement cell for multiphase reactions at reaction temperatures of up to 250 °C and 50 bar pressure for the hydrogenolysis of glycerol
  • Systematic reactor measurements / parameter variation studies in a novel multiphase reactor with EIT and spatially resolved sampling
  • Publication of scientific work in specialist journals and at scientific conferences

YOUR PROFILE

  • Knowledge in the field of heterogeneous or homogeneous catalysis or in the field of multiphase flows and practical laboratory experience in dealing with chemical reactors is an advantage
  • The ability to work in a team, high flexibility, commitment and resilience, as well as independent and responsible action are desired
  • Very good knowledge of the English language is required for project management and publication work
  • Commitment to university teaching is expected

OUR OFFER

  • We offer you the opportunity for scientific qualification leading to a doctoral degree (PhD)
  • Participation in an interdisciplinary and highly motivated team
  • Research activities in a socially highly relevant area
  • Flexible and familyfriendly working conditions, 30 days of vacation per year
  • Special conditions in selected sports and fitness clubs
