Dr. Mirja Harms at the Institute of Molecular Virology (directed by Profs.

Kirchhoff and Münch) is looking for a highly motivated- PhD student (f/m/d)- The University Hospital Ulm and itsemployees stand for a modern and highquality patient care, excellent universityresearch and medical education focusedon the future as well as apprenticeshipsin attractive professional fields.

Therequirements for this are qualified andcommitted employees.- The project aims to clarify the function of a selected panel of biomarkers, which are upregulated during inflammatory processes, e.

g. during SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The goal is to understand, if these molecules are responsible for overshooting immune responses and cytokine storm during the infecition and can therefore be a target for improved therapy, not only for COVID-19, but also for other inflammatory diseases.

Methods will cover work on human primary immune cells, multicolor flow cytometry, and next-generation sequencing.

Required qualifications and skills are:


  • Strong interest in immunology and molecular biology
  • Selfmotivated work, maturity and personal responsibility, effective selforganization, independent thinking and information seeking, interest to solve complex scientific problems and excellent communication skills
  • Excellent pipetting skills and experience in working in cell culture are a requirement, skills in working with primary cells and flow cytometry are highly appreciated but not essential
  • Contract: limited
