    » Your tasks

We are looking for postdoctoral fellow interested in studying the role of nucleic acid sensing in influencing progression, immune interactions and therapy response of Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC). We anticipate that understanding these innate immune pathways and their activation will uncover means for instating immunogenicity and cell death in these tumors. To achieve this, state-of-the-art in vivo and in vitro cancer models will be employed in combination with genomics, proteomics and transcriptomics.

    Your responsibilities will include:

  • Generation of CRISPR-Cas9 edited cells and mice
  • Analysis of intra- and intercellular signaling pathways
  • Assessment of tumor-infiltrating immune cells in vivo
  • Mouse colony management for the experiments
  • Conduct collaborative efforts across disciplines
  • Literature research and data analysis
  • » Your Profile

The ideal candidate for this position should be a highly talented and enthusiastic scientist driven by the desire to make a relevant contribution to the treatment of cancer patients through exciting translational discoveries. Candidates must have obtained a PhD or equivalent to qualify for this position. Prior experience with mouse work and ideally in vivo cancer models is desirable. Successful candidates should in addition have a strong background in cancer cell biology, immunology, biochemistry or similar areas.

  • PhD in biochemistry, biomedicine, immunology or a related field
  • Advanced experience and publication record in cancer research
  • Expertise in immunology and analysis of immune cell types and subtypes
  • Ability to independently drive research projects
  • High level of motivation, enthusiasm, resilience and positivity
  • Ability and willingness to work in a collaborative team
  • Excellent communication in English (written and speech)
  • Have we awakened your interest? Please submit your application (including a detailed CV, list of publications, two references and a brief statement of research interests) here online.

In addition, the highly collaborative research environment in Cologne and international collaborators provides us with access to state-of-the-art facilities, including genomics, proteomics and imaging as well as a close connection to the clinics.

    » Your future with us

Working at the University Hospital Cologne and the Medical Faculty means helping to shape the future - the future of medicine, of patients and, of course, your own future. You benefit from 60 clinics and institutes as well as numerous other departments and facilities and more than 12,000 jobs. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cologne and the University Hospital Cologne assume important social tasks in research, teaching and patient care. A close network with many university and non-university partners guarantees an internationally successful science and the excellent education of our students.

    » Your future in detail

The , based within the Department of Translational Genomics (Head: Prof. Roman Thomas), is committed to improving patient care by studying the evololution of tumors and their microenvironment. We concentrate on how cancers adapt to specific mutations or treatments, aiming to craft personalized therapeutic strategies (Brägelmann et al., Clin Can Res 2017; Brägelmann et al., Cell Rep 2017; Dammert*, Brägelmann* et al., Nature Comm 2019; Müller, ... Brägelmann, Can Res In Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, nucleic acid receptor agonists enhance response to clinically approved drugs via immunological rewiring and cancer cell death (Brägelmann et al., Nature Comm Furthermore, nucleic acid receptors show promise to improve therapy response and immunogenicity in Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC).

As part of the DFG-funded collaborative research center , we are therefore seeking a highly driven postdoctoral fellow to join our team. The areas of focus include cancer immunology, inflammation, and cancer genomics under the leadership of Dr. Johannes Brägelmann. The project involves the investigation of nucleic acid sensing pathways in SCLC, using cutting-edge tools such as CRISPR-editing for in vitro and in vivo models, transcriptomics, and advanced imaging techniques.
