As a Backend Engineer, you work directly on the product, mainly building and maintaining Papershift APIs. The Product Team is organized into cross-functional teams.

That means you work with peers in teams dedicated to areas of the product and with POs, Designers, QA Engineers and Frontend Engineers as well to achieve common goals.

Please be aware that this position requires relocating to Germany.

Your areas of responsibility include:


  • Ownership of improvements to the team code base's quality, security, scalability, performance, maintainability and test coverage that have a particular impact across your team and others.
  • Architects and design systems with crossteam and cross org impact.
  • Creating long term technical vision for the team, and identifying paths to deliver value in shorterterm phases.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners and other stakeholders within Engineering (Frontend, Mobile, etc.) to maintain a high bar for quality in a fastpaced, iterative environment.
  • Establish, monitor, analyse and act upon engineeringrelated metrics.
  • Consistently ship moderate features and improvements with mínimal guidance and support from other team members. Collaborate with the team on larger projects.
  • Constantly seeking growth outside of their comfort zone by leveraging 1:1 meetings.
  • Solve technical problems of the highest scope and complexity for your team.
  • Provide mentorship to Backend Engineers to help them grow in their technical responsibilities.
  • Ownership of issues and performance tracking tools by maintaining them and taking actions based on the given inputs.
  • Identifies and proposes strategies around technical problems affecting their team, communicates standards and gets the team's confirmation on solutions.
  • Proactively seeks out bottlenecks to the team's efficiency ("technical debt"), and proposes and implements solutions that will enable the entire team to iterate faster.

Your Profile should look like:


  • Experience in technically leading complex projects & engineering teams
  • Experience building highly available and performant businesscritical product features
  • 3+ years of technical leadership experience
  • 57 years of professional experience with Ruby on Rails
  • 57 years of professional experience with large relational databases like Postgres
  • Proficient experience working with RESTful APIs
  • Experience building highly available and performant businesscritical product features
  • Solid knowledge in building a structured test suite
  • Good understanding of database principles and optimization mechanisms
  • Strong selfinitiative and excellent analytical skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions
  • Experience with performance and optimization problems and a demonstrated ability to both diagnose and prevent these problems

  • Experience in a peak performance organization
  • Enterprise software scaling and maintaining experience
  • Testdriven development
  • Highly proficient with performance testing
  • Proficient with DDD (Domain-DrivenDevelopment)
