In order to support the Telecom & Navigation Processing department, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a

Master thesis on on-board anomaly detection via machine learning for Telecom Satellites (d/f/m):

Your location:

Your exciting topic:

Autonomous spacecraft is one of the major game changers in the satellite industry and future Telecommunication Satellites are envisioned to be either carrying more complex payloads or deployed in huge constellations.

This means that monitoring anomalies and handling autonomously the operation of the satellites is becoming more and more important.

Not only the failures can be detected by means of artificial intelligence (AI), but also operational availability can be improved by adapting the link or telemetry in autonomously real time to the current needs.

The Master thesis position will focus on the on-board detection of anomalies via machine learning. More specifically, the student will research transfer learning approaches, i.e. learning from data of multiple satellites.

The goal is to demonstrate the algorithms with hardware acceleration on an embedded platform suitable for spacecraft environment and on-board implementation.

Qualifications:

Enrolled full time student (d/f/m) within Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar field of study
First Experiences in inference of Neural Networks on embedded processing platforms (CPU, FPGA)
Embedded programming skills (Python, C, C++, VHDL)
DNN modeling skills (Tensorflow, PyTorch, Matlab)
Fluent English is mandatory; French or German would be an asset
You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.
