Duties:


  • Serve as the principal staff advisor and resource for evaluating the effectiveness of controls in the abatement of health hazards.
  • Identify potential health problems and symptoms, indicating possible occupational diseases resulting from the work environment.
  • Conduct periodic surveys of working conditions to determine the nature and magnitude of hazardous exposures and the effectiveness of existing control measures.
  • Formulate guidance, directives and information bulletins related to the occupational health program in the serviced area.
  • Consult and/or advise safety, engineering, and scientific personnel on occupations health problems.
  • Direct a health education program designed to educate the serviced activities personnel as to means of preventing occupational disease and their role in controlling hazards.

  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Applicants must comply with the Exceptional Family Member Program requirements as outlined in the DoD Instruction
  • A T 1 Personnel Security Investigation is required
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic reverification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • A preplacement medical examination is required.
  • This position required heavy lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to wear protective gear.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a USAREUR driver's license.

US CitizensBasic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist**:


Degree:

Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science.

The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

    Degree:

Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene.

The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.

  • In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience in the federal service which includes: 1) Planning, implementing and evaluating comprehensive industrial hygiene programs; 2) directing and
- conducting periodic surveys of working conditions; AND 3) providing consultation and advice to safety, engineering and scientific personnel on occupational health problems.

  • This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS11)

  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
  • This is a(n) Safety and Occupational Health Career Field position.
  • If an employee brings a child to an overseas location and that child is entitled to attend a DoD school on a spacerequired basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation , the DoDEA and the Military Department responsible for providing related services will ensure that the child, if eligible for special education, receives a free appropriate public education, including related services pursuant to DoDI and DoDM
  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a spacerequired basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation , then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteri
