The residential campus at Constructor University gives students a unique opportunity for intellectual, social and personal development in a safe, diverse and dynamic community.

Resident Mentors play a leading role in shaping the spirit and identity of residential life in accordance with Constructor University's mission statement.

They are expected to oversee one of the residential colleges and its respective teams to facilitate and support the social well-being of students as well as their personal growth and development.

Furthermore, the position requires responding to student's crisis situations within the residential campus.

Constructor University aims at developing a unique education model comprising the concept of a community, and peer component, achieved through a residential college and campus life system that integrates students' learning and living.

Explanation area and responsibility


Your responsibilities:


  • Oversee the support structures and activities of a residential college to achieve the college's mission as a lively social community that fosters the personal development and ensures the physical comfort and wellbeing of residents (circa 240 students).
  • Manage the administration of a residential college in collaboration with other departments regarding accommodation bookings, budgeting, accounting, supplies, and facility issues.
  • Provide mentoring for students in dealing with specific residence hall problems including disciplinary issues, roommate conflicts, personal, behavioral and emotional problems, diversity issues, and other developmental concerns. Serve as a mediator/facilitator to provide resolutions for interpersonal conflicts between students.
  • Supervise and coordinate a team of Resident Associates and Student Assistants who are part of the residential college support system.
  • Provide intervention support for crisis situations as part of a rotational 24/7 onduty emergency support system for all residential colleges (circa 1000 students).
  • Collaborate with other university support staff as part of the Student Support Network to ensure the wellbeing of vulnerable students in close collaboration with internal and external agencies to get services they need to improve their situation and wellbeing.
  • Act as the key 'casehandler' in coordinating other colleagues and professionals involved in providing support to the students.
  • Participate in all spheres of campus life during flexible working hours (also during some nights and weekends) through individual contacts, meetings, discussions, and events/activities as needed.
  • Further develop, and enforce residential and student life regulations in line with university policies and procedures.

Your qualifications:


  • Master's degree or equivalent in student affairs or (intercultural) education or social sciences and/or previous graduate with professional work experience in educational residential and student life systems.
  • Work experience with vulnerable students and responding to students in crisis.
  • Committed and selfmotivated educator with substantial social and community engagement experience and demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities.
  • Administrative experience in residential/student life, development, welfare or in similar contexts in a higher education institution or university setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be selfdirected while comfortable working within a team.
  • Fluent English skills; German or other language skills a plus.
  • Competence in computer skills including full Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with, or the ability to quickly learn, student database systems such as CampusNet and Mercury.
