The University of Bonn is an international research university with a wide education and research profile. With a 200-year history, approximately 31,500 students, more than 6,000 staff, and an excellent reputation at home and abroad, the University of Bonn is one of the most important universities in Germany and is recognized as a university of excellence.

The
Clausius institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry is looking to fill the following position, for the
duration of three years, at the earliest possible date
(50-75%)

Your tasks:

Performing research in the field of experimental surface science with a focus on the properties of large semi-conducting organic molecules adsorbed on surfaces,

Conducting scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) on well-defined surfaces at high level.

The aim is to obtain microscopic information on the surface-molecule and the intermolecular interactions for larger organic molecules with functional groups.

This knowledge should be used to prepare molecular nanostructures of low dimensionality,

Other techniques, besides STM, to be used are: e.g., electron diffraction x-ray standing waves (at synchrotron light sources), and photoelectron spectroscopy etc.

Your profile:

Master's degree in physics, chemistry, or material sciences,

Open to work in close collaborations with synthetic and theoretical chemists,

Have a background or interest in surface science and molecular physics/chemistry,

Prepared to work at a high level of experimental skills,

The position will be associated with the DFG-funded research training group (RTG 2591) "Template-designed Organic Electronics (TIDE)",

Willingness to participate in the teaching of students in a German speaking environment (lab classes, seminars,...).

We offer:

A varied, challenging job with one of the largest employers in the region,

An international, stimulating, well-equipped working environment with an open and constructive atmosphere and the necessary infrastructure for high-quality research,

The opportunity to complete a doctorate,

Occupational pension (VBL),

Many options available for university sports,

Easy access to the public transport system due to the central location in Bonn as well as the possibility to use inexpensive parking facilities,

Flexible working hours,

Remuneration in accordance with TV-L pay grade 13 (50% to 75% depending on expertise).
